Abstract: This paper describes a research framework for exploring the processes of technological change undertaken by firms to improve competitiveness. An investigation is made of the linkages which are possible between new technology and business strategy. Ways are explored in which technology can be used to advantage and in which resources within the firm can be brought together in such a way that they complement each other. The processes of technological change are analysed in terms of networks of linkages within the firm and between firms, in a holistic way that encompasses products, production processes and people.

Keywords: business management; business strategy; competitiveness; new technology; technological change.
