Abstract: Aerodynamics plays an increasing role in the search by car designers for better cars. A low drag coefficient has become a criterion of quality, but will this mean future cars looking alike? The answer is that as long as passenger cars avoid a strictly |ideal| aerodynamic design, the fear of uniformity is unfounded. Examples are quoted to show that the systematic application of aerodynamics to car design does not reduce the scope for creativity, but can increase it.

Keywords: aerodynamics; drag coefficient reduction; future trends; vehicle design; vehicle styling.
