Abstract: A look at the historical perspective, trends, challenges and possible solutions unique to automotive EMC. Applications of advanced electronic systems to vehicle control, diagnostics and customer convenience functions have resulted in a growing awareness of the electromagnetic environment and the design requirements to assure total system compatibility. Past experience and current trends in system sophistication are addressed along with possible solutions to EMC problems.
