Abstract: Much progress has been made in recent years in reducing fuel consumption in motor vehicles. Continued progress in fuel economy and the future availability of alternative fuels will lead to the increasingly efficient use of energy. This development will be assisted by new traffic-control and guidance systems designed to optimize traffic-control in inner-cities. Future vehicle design will also incorporate new factors of safety, low noise and exhaust emissions, greater reliability and improved corrosion protection. These adaptations will guarantee the survival of the motor vehicle as the principal means of personal transportation.
