Abstract: Step-ratios transmissions including automated manual transmission (AMT), automatic transmission (AT) and dual clutch transmission (DCT), have fixed gear ratios, and the gear ratio changes abruptly within a short time when vehicle is launched or gear shift is operated. The longitudinal dynamic control must be addressed to achieve satisfied drivability during start-up and shift process. The researches about the dynamics and control of step-ratio transmissions and clutches are reviewed, and some possible control opportunities are pointed out. The step-ratio transmissions adopted by hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) are introduced as well.
