Abstract: A team is a building block of any organisation. With the advent of globalisation and cut throat competition in business, teams have taken a centre stage in modern business scenario and are required to make important decisions in organisations. Organisations have much to gain from utilising teams within and across the corporate boundaries. Hence, it is important that the basic concepts of a team should be studied in detail. This article studies the nature and structure of teams and focuses upon factors responsible for team effectiveness. Each of the mentioned constituents is defined, briefly explored and examined with regard to appropriateness of use. It is necessary to analyse these elements of team in order to ensure the success of a team, since organisational success is directly proportional to team success. Finally, a call is made for additional research to establish the effects of nature, structure and effectiveness of team.
