Abstract: Chromium slag and contaminated soil are significant risks to human health. Their detoxification is a difficult problem. In this study, we tried to detoxify the chromium slag and contaminated soil by a solid reduction method. The final product is ceramist. The mechanism and process of detoxification of chromium slag and contaminated soil were studied. The residues of Cr (VI) are lower than 0.004 ppm when calcined at 1,210°C, with the weight ratio of Wchromiumslag: Wchromiumslag: Wcinder = 40: 40: 20. Cr (III) was gathered in the grain and surrounded by vitreous bodies in ceramist. This is necessary to ensure that chromium will not release to the environment again. Ceramist can be used as one of the materials in buildings.
