Abstract: The anchorage behaviours and safety states of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) rods are imperative for their successful applications in infrastructures. Deployed novel optical fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors, this paper proposed a smart anchorage system of FRP rod that can monitor the axial strain state and accordingly the interfacial shear stress, as well as the interfacial damage characteristics of FRP anchorage. In the laboratory, seven FBG sensors were distributed along the FRP rod in the anchorage system to monitor the axial strain variations and study the anchorage behaviours of the FRP rods under a static pulling load, compared with theoretical predictions. The experimental results showed excellent agreements with theoretical predictions, which prove that the FBG sensor is a promising solution for monitoring the anchorage behaviour of FRP rods in structural health assessment.
