Abstract: In this work, a mathematical model describing the parental influence on human romantic relationships is proposed. The developed model is a simultaneous differential equation model with six variables and eight parameters, of which four parameters are used to describe the positive or negative feelings of parents towards the love affair of their children. The model is developed by modifying the Strogatz model of dynamical love affairs. Results demonstrate that the proposed model could be used for studying the effects of parental influence on the evolution of the love affair of two individuals in love. Further it is seen that various scenarios pertaining to the effects of parental influences could be modelled using the proposed model. It appears that, both exponentially evolving love affairs as well as oscillatory love dynamics involving parental influences could be studied using the developed model. In this paper, the objectives of this work, the proposed model and computer simulation results are described in detail.
