Abstract: The objective of this study is to advance theoretical understanding as it pertains to sustaining a competitive advantage through the adoption of LSCM software. Firms must go beyond traditional production and manufacturing improvements to compete successfully. The key to success in today's market lies in the effective use of knowledge and intellectual capital. Resource-advantage (R-A) theory borrows from economics, marketing, organisational management, and competition strategy; and provides a new composite perspective of LSCM software adoption. The generalisability of R-A theory has proven to be a valuable lens from which to view competition. However, the broad nature of this theory does not provide sufficient direction for managers in their quest for sustaining competitive advantage. This research proposes tests of R-A theory that will allow managers to better understand the competitive advantage that can come from adopting LSCM software and how to best position their firms for success.
