Abstract: In this paper, the effect of steam injection in the combustion chamber on the exergy efficiency of a gas turbine was investigated. Cycle exergy efficiency, net power output and exergy destruction have been calculated for different mass flow rates and temperature of the injected steam. The range of variation of the mass flow rate was between 0 and 5.24% of the design air flow rate, and the temperature of the injected steam varied between 500 and 650 K. It was found out that increasing the injected steam mass flow rate increases the net electric power output and decreases the total exergy destruction (or irreversibility) and the exergy efficiency.

Keywords: exergy destruction; cycle exergy efficiency; gas turbines; steam injection; net power output.
