Abstract: Manufacturing industries all over the world require standards to communicate and do business together. ISO 9000 quality management system has now become the universal and standard quality language by which industries can attain their objective. The present study was carried out in Indian manufacturing industries to evaluate the challenges before them to adopt the ISO 9000 initiatives. The aim of this research is to critically examine the factors influencing the implementation of ISO practices in Indian manufacturing industry and to devise a strategy for overcoming obstacles to successful ISO implementation. The study focuses on systematic identification of obstacles and working out success factors towards improving manufacturing performances through ISO initiatives. The study highlights the difficulty faced by Indian manufacturing industries in their attempt to implement ISO initiatives in order to improve organisational performance.
