Abstract: It is shown that the demolition of concrete structures requires a great amount of energy and that the reuse of the waste material leads to air pollution. Therefore, it is stated that demountable building systems would be advantageous for the environment. Existing demountable systems are presented and new developments are shown. The essence is that demountable concrete structures are feasible and new developments are encouraged.
Keywords: concrete structures; demountable structures; prefabrication; connections; joints; buildings demolition.
