Abstract: A Hybrid III 5th percentile female dummy model is used to evaluate the effectiveness of seat cushion angle designs and seat cushion support concepts on protection of occupants in a reclined seating position in an LS-DYNA platform. Since the 5th percentile dummy model has a sitting posture and cannot recline, its pelvic part is modified to enable a large degree of freedom of rotation around the hip joint for reclining purposes. The responses of the modified dummy model are then compared with a standard dummy model to observe the difference. Seat back angle effect on occupant safety is also investigated in this study.
