Abstract: A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a wireless network without any fixed infrastructure or centralised control of homogeneous mobile nodes which are battery powered. Therefore, the depletion of energy is a major factor for many researches. Such networks are rationally realised as a set of clusters by grouping nodes that are close to each other or through another wireless node. CH nodes shoulder greater responsibility which may deplete their energy faster due to higher number of communication made, causing them to drop out of the network. There is a need for load balancing among cluster heads. The main objective of this work is to maximise the lifetime of nodes in the wireless network through energy efficient routing with load balancing in a MANET. We propose some improvements to existing algorithm to eliminate the imbalance in the distribution of nodes in the cluster heads and increase the active life of a node in a network.
