Abstract: Development that is sustainable, in Africa, is linked to development initiatives internal to the continent, and the continent|s relationship to the rest of the world. This paper discusses two considerations: firstly, bridging the technological divide between Africa and the rest of the world, and secondly, the nature of an integrated continent-wide development strategy based on the principles of the new world economy.

Keywords: Africa; digital divide; sustainable development; human resource development.
