Title: Defining and classifying nursing practice in electronic patient record systems

Abstract: The Classification of Nursing Practice is an activity that started a few years ago and became a necessity more emphatically required with the advancement of information technology and its applications in the health care domain. The paper presents the approach that has been followed in Europe and internationally through the activities coordinated by the International Council of Nurses and the corresponding work known as International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP). The dissemination of this work in Europe is based on the activities of the Telenurse project that is also presented in this paper.
