Abstract: Over the last four to five decades, application of fibre-reinforced plastics have seen tremendous growth. In spite of the complexity of their behaviour, development of composite pressure chambers has significantly contributed to the spectacular progress in the strength to weight ratio. This paper presents an overview on the acoustic emission (AE) developments towards failure pressure prediction of FRP pressure chambers used in aerospace and other fields. Failure strength prediction methods and related research in this scenario under test load conditions are briefly discussed. The historical background of FRP pressure chamber/vessel testing using AE is also covered in this review.
