Abstract: The growing of application of cold-formed steel in building industries requires the development of not only simple but also reliable design methods. This paper provides an overview on the recent development in determining the moment capacity of cold-formed steel members with a particular focus on the calculation of bending strength due to local, distortional and lateral-torsional buckling. Methods used to calculate the critical stresses of local, distortional and lateral-torsional buckling are addressed and compared. The design methods for determining the bending strength corresponding to these buckling modes are also described briefly.
