Abstract: Agriculture has been one of the most major economic sources in Tien Giang province. Because waste generation from ISP process has not been completely controlled, it has affected the water quality seriously. Samples collected at three stages of shrimp ponds and surface water (rivers, canals) were assessed. The results showed that water quality in rivers and canals is contaminated by organic and solid material. Parameters such as COD, BOD5, NH4+, Ptotal are a little higher than national standard (National technical regulation surface water quality, QCVN 08, level B1) and RQ varies from low to high level. COD, BOD5, NH4+, Ptotal of ISP are higher than standard. The objectives of this paper are to analyse the surface water and sludge characteristic from shrimp pond in order to assess the water quality and find out the solutions for improving the industrial shrimp pond in Tan Phu Dong, Tien Giang province.
