Abstract: A complex engineering network requires an efficient deployment of product lifecycle management (PLM) concepts in order to meet the challenges that dominate today|s globally competitive markets. Hereby, mechanisms that support making the right decisions at the right time can be an essential gain in the scope of an intelligent management of product relevant data and their governing processes. Interrelating engineering processes and decision processes, this paper introduces the results of a prototypical engineering change management (ECM) process implementation, using the workflow component of a minimum cost product data management (PDM) system. In doing so, the JT format was integrated as means to assist in decision-making, based on easily accessible three-dimensional product data.
