Abstract: Prins products of some unsaturated fatty acids with paraformaldehyde were prepared by thermal reaction. Corrosion and lubrication tests for these products as water-based cutting fluid additives were carried out. It was found that triethanolamine salts of the adducts from undecylenic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid with formaldehyde showed effective rust-inhibiting and anti-wear properties for water-based cutting fluids.
