Abstract: In the production of gas pipelines steels of a very high specification are required. Efforts are directed towards combining high strengths and high plastic properties. The well-known properties of materials under dynamic load are of help in the overall estimation of the behaviour of a particular steel. This article presents soyle experimental data concerning the behaviour of low alloy 10G2SAF steel at a load rate K = 2.5 × l05 MPa m1/2 s−1. Temperature relationships of impact toughness, dynamic yield stress and fracture toughness are considered and the critical temperatures are determined in accordance with some technological requirements.

Keywords: low alloy steel; dynamic fracture; impact toughness; critical temperature; gas pipelines; dynamic yield stress.
