Abstract: Recently, surface hardening techniques utilizing a high energy concentration heat source have been attracting the interest of engineers. Electron Beam Hardening is one such technique and has many characteristics, including; (1) Suitable for hardening specified local area of very complicated shape; (2) High energy concentration and efficiency; (3) Beam application is only several seconds, etc. This paper describes the Electron Beam Hardening Method which has been successfully applied to automotive parts.

Keywords: automotive components; electron beam hardening; surface hardening; automobile industry.
