Abstract: This study addresses Korea|s features in promoting high-tech developments. In order to identify these features, this study examines the government|s high-tech initiatives and R&D system and the R&D players| roles. Also, it analyses empirically the cases of the national projects for developing semiconductors and the highly advanced national (HAN) projects. The last part of the study argues the potential and future direction of the Korean government|s high-tech initiatives and the local R&D players| roles.
