Abstract: In this paper, the characteristics of dispersed multimedia production are analysed and discussed. The life cycle from a specific idea to an end product is illustrated by a case example referred to as the ODL Teacher|s guide (||Opinlinnassa tiedon tiloja|| in Finnish). Multimedia production of the teacher|s guide for open and distance learning is presented and compared with the Model for Multimedia Courseware Production and Delivery (the MCP Model, also referred to as the Morgan Skinner Production Model) developed within the Virtual Multimedia Factory project.

Keywords: dispersed multimedia production; virtual teams; learning organisations.
