Abstract: The anchoring and orientation of liquid crystal (LC) molecules are influenced by several parameters. This paper presents theoretical work that aims to explain how surface changes and potential due to corrosion, affect the LC orientation and anchoring. This work is done with a view of enabling the design and development of a LC based corrosion sensor.

Keywords: nematic liquid crystals; thin films; corrosion sensors; modelling; liquid crystal molecules.
