Abstract: This present work deals with finite element simulation of sheet carton stapling. The simulation allows for the sheet carton perforation until the total staple penetration. To focus on their physical inherence, a simple finite element model under plane stress was used to investigate and calibrate the carton perforation stage during stapling. The carton material studied was elastic—perfectly plastic. A node separation (debonding) technique to predefine a separation line is used in this investigation in order to simulate the sheet carton perforation. The node separation model is based on critical stress criterion.
