Abstract: A new compact coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed slot antenna for ultra wideband (UWB) applications with notched design is presented in this paper. By inserting a slot with the desired length and width in the ground plane, a notching in the particular band can be achieved. The characteristics of the designed structure are investigated using an electromagnetic solver, IE3D. The overall size of the antenna is 28 × 21 × 1.6 mm². For the developed antenna, the return loss and VSWR are measured and compared with the simulated results. The measured parameters are in good agreement with the simulation and the antenna offers excellent performance for UWB system ranging from 3.3 to 11.5 GHz with band notching between 5.1 and 5.9 GHz. Computed time domain analysis of the antenna confirms that the designed antenna is capable of working effectively in the UWB environment. This antenna configuration would be quite useful for UWB indoor applications with no interference from other systems when they coexist.
