Abstract: Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death for women. X-ray mammography is the most important modality, which is used for early detection of breast cancer. Small clusters of microcalcifications appearing as collection of white spots on mammograms indicate an early warning of breast cancer. Detection of microcalcifications is one of the key issues for breast cancer control. In present paper, the authors have developed improved computational techniques based on image processing methodologies for identification of microcalcification in breast and gradation of masses in different groups of benignancy and malignancy. For classification of masses, we have designed classifier based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy techniques where both the shape and texture based features have been considered.
