Abstract: This paper defines teaching as a process and develops a model to measure the effectiveness of the process. The model uses a teaching-learning approach derived from learning theories, motivational theories, and experimental design, to create an index for measuring instruction effectiveness. The validity and the strength of the model is tested through Factor Analysis and ANOVA techniques. The results show that the index is useful for rating, comparing courses or evaluating techniques, and can guide decisions regarding course improvements, methods, styles, and alternative teaching methodologies.
