Title: Critical success factors of computer software training workshops in the construction industry

Abstract: Seeking to make employees productive as quickly as possible on their new computer systems and software, contractors are increasingly investing in computer training. Colleges and university professors are being asked by both industry and computer software manufacturers to help train their personnel and the purchasers of their software, respectively. In order to effectively train adults on new computer application software in the construction industry, colleges and universities must learn to conduct computer software training workshops which are geared toward the working professionals. Research of construction software workshops showed that there are five critical success factors which are common to these workshops. These critical success factors were: pre-evaluation, workshop format, curriculum, the instructor, and the facilities. From this research and the survey results, guidelines are presented for developing computer software training workshops for the construction industry.
