Abstract: Ferrites nanoparticles have been the emerging focus of the recent scientific research because of the importance of nanotechnology in the present era. They have various possible new technological applications in areas like catalysts, ferrofluids, magneto caloric refrigeration and medical diagnostics. Properties of nanoferrites are very sensitive to the method of preparation and sintering condition. Therefore, the selection of an appropriate process is the key to obtain high quality ferrites. Nanosize zinc ferrite has been the particular subject of study because of its unusual structural, electrical, optical and magnetic properties, which differ from their bulk counterpart. Zinc ferrite is particularly also important because of the strong tetrahedral site preference of zinc ions in zinc ferrite. This paper reports the synthesis of zinc ferrite nanoparticles by sol-gel method and their characterisation.
