Abstract: Zinc oxide nanoparticles were successfully prepared through the decomposition of zinc acetylacetonate precursor in oleylamine in the presence of triphenylphosphine. The products were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The photoluminescence of ZnO nanoparticles was studied by exciting the sample with an ArF laser (193 nm). A strong blue-shift of the emission band of ZnO, suggesting a strong quantum size effect, is observed.
