Abstract: Particulate matter concentrations and meteorological parameters were monitored to assess the impact of other industries likely to be set up at Kolar Gold Fields, India. Particulate matter less than 10 µm was the highest in winter due to the influence of gold mill tailings dumps while total suspended particulate matter was generally higher in spring probably due to the influence of uncovered area near the monitoring station. In summer, intermittent rain lowered the particulate concentrations. Correlations of particulate matter with meteorological parameters were insignificant but significant with multiple regressions. The study showed the air quality is likely to be worse without adequate pollution control measures.
