Abstract: Growth in communications networks is essentially related to the economic strength of a country, according to the author. This paper discusses the various requirements made on networks, and shows that communications network requirements for a country depend on its economic strength. Digitalization of networks has become technically feasible, and can benefit all countries regardless of their economic strength. The paper examines the problems that are likely to arise from the digitalization of networks, and proposes some tentative solutions.
Keywords: digitalisation; digital networks; telecommunications; standardisation.
