Abstract: In this paper the author poses the question: Is it possible to develop principles and rules from historic events which could help in our times when introducing and promoting new technologies? The author elucidates by means of illustrative examples that it is not possible to plan basic research. However, the crucial elements are the individual researcher|s creativity and imagination. Further, the author outlines the characteristic features of an entrepreneur, which are a feeling of the demand of the market, as well as a strong will for manufacturing new products. In addition, he demonstrates how governmental restrictions of exports lead to competitors producing new and better products. Finally, the author discusses the significance of subsidies by a government with national conditions and prescriptions when exploring new technologies.
