Abstract: Effective management of technology is the key to economic growth and competitiveness. An attempt is made in this paper to identify and elaborate some of the factors that contribute to the improper management of technology at the level of the firm. Some misconceptions and obstacles that stand in the way of understanding the role of technology in, and its effective management for, achieving competitiveness and profitability are highlighted. The paper stresses some of the skills that managers should acquire for the effective management of technology.
