Abstract: Parts fabrication is the first manufacturing stage where components and zones for hull construction are produced. The production efficiency at this stage can hardly be achieved due to part heaviness and dynamic characteristics in a shipyard. In this paper, given production sequence in the parts fabrication, the problem is to optimally select machines and production division, such that the total flow-time is minimised as well as balancing the workload among machines. Specifically, three mathematical models for flow-time minimisation and workload balance simultaneously considering both objectives, and a numerical example, are presented and analysed.
Keywords: production plan; ship hull fabrication; mathematical programming.
