Abstract: An overview of waveguiding thin films fabricated by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) is presented. Principles of PLD, advantages and problems are summarised. Attention is paid to active and passive waveguiding films. Details on materials, deposition, characterisation and waveguiding properties are given in tables. Parameters of lasing layers fabricated by PLD are also summarised. Applications of waveguiding layers are presented, including examples of devices such as a sensor for butane detection.
Keywords: PLD; pulsed laser deposition; laser ablation; passive waveguides; active waveguides; waveguide laser; sensors; thin films; butane detection.
