Abstract: Global supply chain and management has become an important issue. It involves a company|s worldwide interests and the coordination of production, inventory, location, and transportation in the entire supply chain. In a global business environment, interoperability among information and information sharing among business partners are fundamental requirements. Capturing real-time data and information and gaining supply chain visibility can achieve quick responsiveness and high efficiency in business. RFID is powerful in these aspects and therefore can greatly foster the global Supply Chain Management (SCM) based on Electronic Product Code (EPC) and the EPCglobal Network. This paper describes the methodology and approach of using RFID to achieve optimised global supply chains. Problems, challenges, and new trends of RFID are also discussed.

Keywords: RFID; radio frequency identification; SCM; supply chain management; EPC; electronic product code; EPCglobal Network; real-time information; database; information security; global supply chains; interoperability.
