Abstract: This work deals with the improvement of tool paths in five-axis machining. Rotation axes present weak maximal characteristics so that tool path discontinuities introduce defects on the milled surfaces. This paper deals with the analysis of the influence of a tool path adapted in the machine tool coordinate system.

Keywords: five-axis machining; computed tool paths; tool axis orientation; optimisation; tool path smoothing; flank milling; machine tools.
