In some countries, language is such a contentious issue that it has underpinned what might be called |ethnic based| claims for secession. Using the example of Sri Lanka, the issues facing a tri-lingual nation is cybernetically examined with the objective of diagnosing the different homeostatic relationships pertaining to language. In particular, posed is the question – Is there a major set of homeostatic relationships worthy of deeper exploration given the way it differently affects the various races.
Keywords: multi-ethnic population; multilingual population; Sri Lanka; secession; language homeostasis; identity; viability; race relations; communication; cybernetics.
