Abstract: This study proposes a product design method using the macroscopic shape feature |complexity| for emotional design by styling. This method consists of the quantitative representation method of the macroscopic shape feature |complexity| using curvature integration, and the shape generation method that can generate curved profiles reflecting the inputted |complexity| using genetic algorithms. The validity of this method based on application for diverse curved profiles is shown, and the vehicle design using the shape generation method is introduced.

Keywords: product design; macroscopic shape feature; complexity; shape generation; emotional design; styling; emotion; curvature integration; genetic algorithms; GAs; vehicle design.
