Abstract: This paper deals with a permanent magnet synchronous motor control using non-integer order I-P controllers. The main contributions of this paper are the development of a method to find the controller|s parameters using the pole placement principle and the reference fractional model choice of the closed loop transfer function. The reference model|s parameters are calculated using genetic algorithms such that its step response will be equivalent to that of a second order dumped model. The application of these controllers to the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) shows its interest particularly its robustness with respect to the mechanical parameters variations; characteristic which cannot be obtained using the classical integer controllers.

Keywords: fractional I-P controllers; pole placement; genetic algorithms; GAs; robust control; permanent magnet synchronous motors; PMSM; controller design.
