Abstract: An energetic and exergetic study on a diffusion absorption refrigerator (DAR) is presented in this paper. It uses ammonia as the refrigerant, water as the absorbent and hydrogen as the auxiliary gas. A computer model has been developed to calculate the thermodynamic properties of all state points, heat flow rates, exergy losses and COP degradation in each component of the system. The system performance based on coefficient of performance as well as exergetic efficiency was evaluated. The input data were recorded for a 20-litre diffusion absorption refrigerator. A parametric study was done to examine the influence of different parameters on the coefficient of performance and the exergy efficiency of the system.

Keywords: diffusion absorption refrigeration; thermodynamic models; COP; coefficient of performance; exergy analysis; exergetic efficiency; heat flow.
