Abstract: Scalability on multimedia content repurposing is a new challenge in distributing multimedia owing to the heterogeneity of client devices and their network connections. To solve the issues of scalability and heterogeneity, this paper proposes a solution that uses a series of repurposing proxies in a chain fashion. To find the best scalable repurposing service among those proxies, two modified versions of the shortest path selection algorithms have been implemented. The scalability of both the algorithms and the generated services has been measured. Furthermore, this paper also presents simulation results of scalability on the repurposed video content, which is an important required functionality for multimedia.

Keywords: multimedia content repurposing; transcoding; scalability measurement; network characteristics; video content.
