Abstract: Changes in the competitive landscape enforce new requirements on information acquisition and knowledge integration for firms competing on innovation. These sub-themes are the degree of uncertainty faced by NPD; managing tacit and explicit knowledge and information; managing knowledge and information |outside| the firm; management of complementary knowledge in project-based organisations; NPD projects – organising for innovation. The paper ends with a section providing concluding remarks.

Keywords: NPD; new product development; R&D management; knowledge management; open innovation; project management; research and development; information acquisition; knowledge integration; information management; uncertainty; tacit knowledge; explicit knowledge.
