Abstract: This research applies the fractional factorial experimentation approach to study the effect of turning parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and tool nose radius on the surface roughness of turned surfaces. A mathematical model was developed relating surface roughness and the turning factors by using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and the model was checked for adequacy by regression analysis and analysis of variance. The effect of turning factors and factor interactions on surface roughness is presented in graphical form, which helps in selecting quickly the process parameters to achieve the desired quality of machining surface.
