Title: Making the case for sustainable strategic management: an assessment of FedEx

Abstract: In the last two decades, the field of strategic management has seen a rise in the concept of sustainability. This paper reviews and links the strategic management literature to the issue of sustainability. One firm, FedEx, a global supply chain, logistics organisation, is highlighted as an example of a business that has weathered many storms to remain a vital, sustainable competitor in a fast maturing industry. FedEx, under the direction of its founder Fred Smith, personifies sustainability, navigating its way through a fast-paced, competitive and turbulent 34 years.
